Best for Posing - Expert review of Rumeli Fortress
Impressive waterfront fortress with great Bosphorus views.
One of the most prominent sights from the Bosphorus Tour, this massive hillside fortress was built in four months as part of the successful siege of Constantinople. Today, it’s a particularly picturesque place to enjoy dramatic views of the strait and climb with few restrictions around the fort’s steep and sometimes crumbling walls.
Price advice:
Admission is a steal at 3 lira.
Expert tips:
If visiting in summer, find out if any outdoor concerts are scheduled to be held at the castle; it’s a beautiful, intimate venue.
Kids will love exploring the castle and its grounds, but keep a good eye on the little ones as safety barriers are few.
