Expert review of Scuba diving from Hvar
Diving enthusiasts have come to right place. Dalmatia’s Adriatic has some fascinating dive sites, and some of the best are close to the island of Hvar. Based in the grounds of Podstine, a 20-minute walk west of Hvar Town, the Viking Diving Centre offers dive excursions to at least 15 sites, most of them around the nearby Pakleni islets. These include Vodnjak, a tiny island adjoining an underwater canyon filled with red gorgons; the Paulina ship wreck dating from the late 19th century; and the Baba Reef, full of yellow gorgons and orange and yellow sponges. Viking also offer introductory dives for beginners, PADI courses, and scuba gear for hire. The centre is run by a team of qualified and experienced dive instructors, who speak Croatian, English, German, Italian and French.
Expect to pay around 325 kunas for one dive, with diving gear included.
