Best for History - Expert review of Hungarian National Museum
Not only does the Hungarian National Museum showcase the country’s history, but it played a part itself in one of the country’s key historical moments. It was from the museum steps in 1848 that rebels recited Sándor Petőfi’s poem National Song, kickstarting a revolution that developed into the year-long Independence War against the Habsburg ruling power. The Neo-Classical museum on the Small Boulevard is Hungary’s biggest, and has exhibits dating from the prehistoric period up to the 20th century. Among the highlights is St Stephen’s coronation cloak.
Permanent exhibitions 1,100 forints (adult), 550 forints (concessions).
