Best for Families - Expert review of Berlin Zoo
The Berlin Zoo houses an impressive 15,000 animals, covering 1,400 species, including giant pandas, gorillas, lions and more in natural settings. The birdhouse alone has over 550 species. The Zoo opened in 1844 when King Friedrich Wilhelm IV provided 850 animals from his royal collection. As one of Europe’s largest zoos, it’s also one of the most popular, drawing around 3.3 million visitors each year. Adjacent to the zoo is a large aquarium (with a separate entrance and fee), boasting over 9,000 species of fish, reptiles, amphibians and insects, along with a Komodo dragon exhibit and a new Hippoquarium.
Adults cost 12 euros (zoo) and 18 euros (zoo and aquarium), students (16 years+) 9 euros/14 euros and children (5-15 years) 6 euros/9 euros.
