A top restaurant set in a lovely park.

Steirereck dining means a feast for epicureans.

Heinz Reitbauer's Steirereck is the best restaurant in Austria and, according to various channels, among the top 50 eateries world-wide. So, stand in line and book way ahead to make sure you don't miss out. Oh, and you don't have to worry about mortgaging your house first, it isn't as pricy as some top restaurants in London, New York or Paris.

Food and drink: 

This is gastronomic paradise. Reitbauer says cooks take themselves too seriously, maybe that is his secret – his creative, innovative Austrian cuisine is very down to earth as is his home-grown produce. He respects molecular gastronomy but maintains that, for him, it's really the freshest ingredients that make the dish - that's why he set up his own farm.

Ambience: 

At one time, a dairy was in this spot, located directly above the Vienna River. Today it is an elegant Jugendstil villa in an English-style park. The fine dining takes place in style, in a grandiose gala atmosphere.

Service: 

Nothing ever goes wrong here, the quality of the service is just absolute perfection - you can see that every member of the staff takes utmost pride in his or her work.

Location: 

Steirereck is in Stadtpark, between Ringstrasse and Heumarkt. The Wienfluss (Vienna River) divides the park into two halves. After lunch you might want to take a stroll through the park, there are more monuments here than in any other: Franz Schubert, Anton Bruckner, Johann Strauss Jr., Robert Stolz, Franz Lehar and many more.

Price advice: 

A six-course meal costs 108 euros, seven courses 118 euros. Expect to pay 80 euros for lunch with a glass of wine.
