Expert review of mOre Cafe
Relaxed drinking and dining at the foot of the world's tallest tower.
Something of a Dubai success story, mOre cafe has grown from a single cafe/restaurant serving an excellent array of homemade food into a thriving chain with seven outposts. I've chosen this one for one main reason; it's at the foot of the world's tallest tower, meaning you can spill your latte all over yourself as you stare at the heavens looking for the top.
Food and drink:
The menu offers a broad spread of almost everything, from bulging sandwiches, curries, South East Asian dishes, pastas, you name it. It's almost all excellent, although sometimes the portions aren't quite so generous. It's well worth leaving the Atkins Diet at the door, as the homemade selection of breads are among Dubai's best, as are the array of cakes. Of course, you needn't eat at all and simply choose from the vast list of coffees and refreshing coolers.
Recommended dishes:
I'm a big fan of the soups, which come in a giant pot that can be refilled should you manage to make it to the bottom. The sandwiches are a firm favourite too, often so big and open that the term sandwich should really be called into question.
Ambience:
Relaxed and chatty. This outlet is part of The Dubai Mall, so if you're sat inside you'll have shoppers passing by for a coffee and a chinwag. It's popular with both tourists and residents.
Service:
Usually excellent, although it does get very busy so you might have to wait a few minutes extra to get served.
Location:
This outlet of mOre is on the ground floor of preposterously enormous The Dubai Mall, with shops, other restaurants and even an aquarium just metres away. It's also at the foot of the towering Burj Khalifa, which offers a somewhat impressive shadow for the tables outside.
Price advice:
Most dishes come between 30 and 90 dirhams, so it's not too expensive. However, I'd prefer it if the drinks were a little cheaper as a fairly average-sized cup of coffee costs around 20 dirhams.
Tables to book:
You can't book tables, but it's definitely worth getting a table outside to get a full experience of the Burj Khalifa just metres away. They're quite popular, however, so if you can at a peak time during the tourist season you may have to wait.
