This trendy gourmet burger spot gives the Golden Arches a serious run for its money.

For a taste of some of the city's finest burgers in oh-so-cool surrounds, head for this Long Street spot. It's the lair of trendy twenty-and-thirty somethings aplenty and, with its laid-back vibe, is the perfect way to enjoy a dose of Long Street culture.

Food and drink: 

The burgers (there are over 50 on the menu) span every flavour going and the milkshakes are excellent too. There's a wine list but I'd say why bother - drink beer with your burger!

Recommended dishes: 

I'm a bit of a burger nerd, it has to have cheese on it and bacon's a bonus which is why the Uncle Morris does it for me every time. But there are loads of other burger choices too - like the Baa Baa lamb burger, the Big Bird ostrich burger and the Wonderland mushroom burger. Simply put, however you like it you'll get it - with your choice of potato wedges or sweet potato chips.

Ambience: 

Laid back with an infectious air of fun and weekend rowdiness. This is a family run business and it shows - Mama rules with a friendly smile and an iron fist. Enjoy a drink at The Waiting Room, a haven of retro cool, situated upstairs.

Service: 

Slick, young and fun.

At the top end of Long Street.

Price advice: 

You'll pay around 55 rand per burger. Weekday (Mon-Thurs) specials offer selected burgers for 30 rand between 4pm and 5.45pm while selected beers and wines by the glass are 10 rand.

Tables to book: 

I love sitting upstairs in the red room with its retro flavoured interiors, music sheet papered walls and splashes of red.
