Expert review of Hotel Es Port
This 17th-century farmhouse has been around for a long time, but a recent refurbishment has raised standards considerably. It now has a new, modern annex, but I actually prefer the rustic atmosphere of the original stone building. Cooking standards have also improved, and the quality of food is good for by three-star hotel standards.
Ten minutes' walk to the Port de Sóller. Or there's a bus if you don't want to walk.
The new block offers more contemporary bedrooms, but they feel a little soulless to me, especially compared to those in the original finca (farmhouse). These are a little old fashioned, granted, but I like the traditional ropa de llengües textiles, terracotta tiles, exposed beams and farmhouse furniture that give them a solid, rustic feel. The Tower Suite is a nice romantic option, and for my money I think it’s worth booking a room with a balcony. Cosy single rooms are a bonus too.

The gardens are fantastic, thickly planted with citrus, pomegranate and palm trees, with nicely kept lawns and plenty of shady terraces for lolling about in. The lounge areas, likewise, have got the rustic-chic feel just right.
The large glass dining room initially feels a little bit impersonal, especially with its resort hotel-style buffet. That said, the buffet is actually pretty good, and there is now the option to have many dishes freshly made to order. Under the new ‘show cook’ concept, much of it is cooked in view of guests.
Tennis courts, gym, indoor and outdoor pools, and a sea water spa, which does wonders for backache and asthma.
Can be a little bit slow, but on the whole is friendly and willing.

This is a popular choice for mature walking groups, mainly French and German, though there are a few Brits especially in high season. Surprising there’s not more families given the facilities.
Good value for what you get, and some interesting packages like the ‘multi-adventure’ for sporty types.
